Working on the plastics market for more than 30 years, we frequently receive requests to calculate of the cost for moulds production.
Sometimes the customers ask to indicate approximate cost straight away. Knowing that the calculation process is a complex task, we have decides to share with you how the mould price is formed.
Generally, the cost of mould manufacturing could be calculated as:
cost for designing the project + cost for the materials used (mould base and standardized components) + cost for mould manufacturing + costs for mould testing.
Preparation of an offer foresees three main stages:
- Obtaining a full-fledged technical task from the customer,
- Developing a sketch of the future mould and listing all needed components and mould base for its manufacturing,
- Preparation of an offer.
The most important is the first stage that anticipates cooperation between the customer and responsible manager and their work on the technical task. In the last, such important elements/factors should be mentioned or added:
- Drawing, 3D model or sample of a plastic part.
- Information about the material from which the part will be made.
- Estimated number of cavities in a mould.
- How many cycles the mould should work before the first repair
- Injection moulding machine that will be used and its main characteristics.
- It is also important to understand how much the customer is ready to invest in the project.
After receiving all the listed above information, we proceed to the second stage. During this stage our engineer prepares a sketch of the future mould, selects mould base and components and negotiates with the production the lead time.
In our mould production, we use high-quality European steel and standardized components from the Polish company Proplastica; hot runner systems from Polish manufacturers WadimPlast and Elwik; heaters of the German company GC-Heat, etc.
We conduct casing simulation before starting the project to make sure, that the material will fill all the cavities well, that there will be no flashes and other manufacturing defects.
The third and final stage is the preparation of a commercial offer. At this stage, the responsible manager receives the data from the engineer and the production, calculates the cost and makes an offer.
Generally, preparation of an offer for mould manufacturing is very time consuming and very responsible process. Therefore, good cooperation between managers and customers in working on technical task is an important part of the process.
Photos of our moulds could be seen here and the process of moulds design and manufacturing is described here.
We are always open to cooperation and ready to answer all your questions.
